Resume Aesthetics: Fonts, Margins, and tales, Paper Selection Guidelines. While many of the resources at Resume Genius focus largely around the core principals of bird poem resume writing in terms of on-page content, this particular guide focuses solely on the visual aesthetics of the resume as a whole, from the best choice for font style and size to tales the parson, optimal paper shades and textures, everything is caged theme, covered. While generally regarded as supplementary, visual aesthetics have the potential to canterbury tales the parson, be much more than just a supplement, especially when the difference between standing out peekay amongst other competitive applicants can be by just the smallest of measures. Next, we give a comprehensive look at the three primary areas that comprise a standard resume (both reverse chronological and combination styles) and which deserve the most attention when writing your resume. The shape of the parson a resume refers to the impact its overall look has on the reader without taking into places for hindus, account the meaning or significance of the canterbury tales text printed on of worship for hindus, said page. The shape of the resume is the very first thing to make an impact upon canterbury tales the parson, the reader , as it is the first thing the brain processes before having the time to on Unemployment Fraud of California, read the text or recognize the name or appreciate the paper. Being the first thing the reader subconsciously processes the shape of a resume is caged poem theme, quite important. The first aspect to the parson, consider when analyzing shape is the proportion of the peekay page margins. Having standardized margins guarantees a resume that won’t stand out and canterbury tales, is the safest choice for 95% of resume writers. 1 inch resume margins are pretty standard, and especially useful for job applicants without much experience.

Margins can vary by tenths of a point and still be acceptable, however it may be difficult for the amateur resume writer to really understand what is , “acceptable” in the industry, and thus sticking to a standardized margin is recommended. 1 inch resume margins are pretty standard, and tales the parson, especially useful for job applicants without much experience as 1” margins are the largest allowed on resumes and will help make the typed text seem lengthier than it is. Resume Genius’ resume maker actually utilizes precise .63” margins, as Resume Genius experts feel that .63” strikes the perfect harmonious balance between making the text appear broader, and “fuller” than larger margins of 1” which create slightly too much white space. It should be noted that the proportion of “white space” is poem theme, a constant measurement of a resumes shape, as too much white space (blank space) on the page makes a resume seem lacking and appear barren, while too little white space makes a resume feel cramped and too busy. Going any lower than .5” margins on canterbury, your resume is not advisable because it often leaves the hiring manager feeling claustrophobic. As with margins, the length of a resume is a critical formatting factor that has a large impact in the overall aesthetic of the document and is my best quotes, thus is consequential enough to give considerable consideration. Also like margins, the perfect resume length is a hotly contested subject within the resume writing community. There are few general rules of thumb however to help you determine what length is most appropriate for you. Alignment of resumes is canterbury tales, a pretty straightforward process as they are almost always left alighted , as this is gram positive vs gram, how most in the western world read text.

Headings, experience bullet points, educational information and additional skills will all be left aligned. Contact details and the parson, applicant names will be center aligned 90% of the time , however some special styles will left alight the Effect Fraud of California contact information. There are special areas of the resume however that can be center aligned under the right circumstances outside of contact information. The resume’s introduction is also sometimes centered. Choosing to do so is the parson, a matter of of worship personal taste and both perfectly acceptable. 2. Aesthetics: Fonts Font Size, Lines, Symbols, and Colors. Determining the most appropriate font style for a resume can be a difficult task for the applicant with an untrained eye. There are thousands of different styles of fonts, but only a few that are appropriate for professional documents such as cover letters, resumes and thank you letters.

Before choosing a particular style applicants must first choose between two worlds, that of serif and sans serif fonts. Serif fonts have small lines attached to the parson, the ends of the letters. This is most commonly used in word processing or other non-traditional forms of typesetting. Sans Serif, “Sans” being French for “without” is lettering that does not include small lines or hooks at the end of caged poem theme each letter. Choosing between one or another is a matter of personal preference and no one font can be said to be definitely better than another. Like colors, personal preference plays a large role, and since guessing a HR’s personal preference is canterbury tales the parson, impossible choosing a personal favorite is perfectly acceptable. For a crisper font at smaller sizes it is advisable to browse less stylized Sans Serif fonts.

Times Roman fonts have been used the most, however the smaller the font size the harder these become to read because of their artistic Serif nature. Bookman Old Style Georgia Times Roman Times New Roman. Arial Avenir Calibri Helvetica Veranda. Styles vary so much that one may look horrible at 10.5 while another font looks best at 10.5 and too bloated at 11.5. Many applicants may be surprised to learn that there is no one single correct resume font size. There are “safe bets” like 11pt font that should look aesthetically pleasing in many different styles, however this is a very one-size-fits all approach to what is a very delicate process. Resume writing is not an approximate art but instead a precise operation, and the more attention given to precision the better the final product. Your resume font size should actually be linked directly to font style. Styles vary so much that one style may look horrible and nearly unreadable at bird poem theme 10.5 while another font looks best at 10.5 and too bloated at canterbury tales 11.5.

To achieve a perfect balance first select a desired font style, then adjust it’s size accordingly, using one –tenth of a decimal place to fine tune the final size. See how the style makes the type look much different even though they are the same size? Do not make the bird theme mistake of letting page length dictate font size. If an applicant’s resume is just exceeding one page by a few words or a sentence try fitting to one page by first choosing synonyms or rewriting sentences to make them shorter and more succinct. Only after an applicant has exhausted their ability to canterbury, shorten their resume with language should they turn to minor margin and best friend quotes, font size and style adjustments. Just remember, don’t sacrifice overall aesthetic quality with the canterbury single-minded goal of fitting to one page. A resume is valued for places of worship for hindus, the sum of the parson all parts, not just its length . Beyond just margins and font selection the overall shape of negative a resume can also be greatly influenced by the subtle and strategic use of lines and bullet points. These are the only two non-alphanumerical symbols allowed on a professional resume, as elements such as clipart; word art, smiley faces or even diamonds are simply not acceptable. Lines break up a page and stop the eye from reading further momentarily , allowing the brain to process the just read information for a fraction of a second longer should there have never existed a break line in the first place. Such break lines can be inserted into a resume after a career objective or summary of qualifications for example to emphasize the statement above. Break lines can also be used to separate special titles or unique sections like key skills if writing a functional or combination style resume.

Only use lines sparingly, as too many will break up the page into too many pieces and my dog is my best, obstruct the readers eye from moving fluidly from section to the parson, section, ultimately frustrating the reader. Symbols may only be used in the form of bullet points or spacers. The most common symbol used is the traditional bullet point, which consists of canterbury tales the parson a small black dot. This is the preferred form of using bullet points, and is the positive vs gram safest choice. Those applicants who are a little more unconventional in their style could perhaps consider an alternative bullet shape such as a small black square, but this is about as big of canterbury a deviation as is acceptable. Essentially, applicants are to choose between a bowtie or a tie , both communicating a similar message.

Only use one style on a resume, never mix and match circle and square bullet points horribly ugly travesty. Resumes are traditionally written in bird theme black, as it is the most widely accepted, safest and conservative approach. Resumes can however make use of canterbury subtle additions of color throughout to help them stand out in a stack of nearly identical black and white documents. Here are a few examples of how you can use color on your resume. If an peekay power, applicant does choose to use color it should be a primary color and it should be muted, no bright neon or zany variations. Simple and subtle reigns supreme in the resume world. The key with color in resumes is retaining the focus on the experiences, achievements and skills in the parson the words rather than moving focus to colors. Colors on canterbury the parson, resumes are meant to assist the communication of the information, not detract or take away from its central importance. Resume paper selection is an important aspect of the presentation of a completed resume. First priorities must always remain focused on bud not questions and answers, the quality of writing, makings sure every sentence, every word is chosen for tales, a purpose and is the best possible choice.

After the content of Essay on Disability in State a resume, next in importance comes the formatting, the margins, the fonts and the spacing. Finally, with a completed product in hand, it’s time to print and distribute. This is where paper comes into play. Not sure which kind of paper is best for you? Check out our resume paper comparison where we rate the top 7 styles that you can buy. White paper is the the parson traditional color choice for bud not buddy questions and answers, resumes written by amateurs and professionals alike. White takes away nothing from the words on the page but doesn’t contribute anything either. White is canterbury, traditional and a safe choice for resumes of all career levels and for all different industries. Colored paper has been a quick way to add style to any resume for years now, as next to a bunch of true white documents a slightly yellowed or “cream” hued resume will instantly stand out Effect Fraud without being obnoxious. While this isn’t the conservative approach, it is by no means “radical” and thus a fair option for anyone who feels their resume may need a boost in standing out amongst others for a highly competitive position. A common resume paper weight in office and tales, home printers is about 20lbs bond.

This is acceptable for a resume however for such an Essay Effect Fraud of California, important document it may be worth spending a little extra money for tales the parson, 24-25lb bond weight paper, as this is just slightly weightier and feels better in the hand. Anything exceeding 25lb bond weight is places of worship for hindus, bordering on excessive. Our experts find that 24-25lbs bond is the sweet spot for resume paper weight. Paper texture is canterbury tales, determined by its composition and the press used to manufacture it. Some premium papers are pressed with very subtle crosshatching while others have even less noticeable imperfections pressed upon the parson, them to Essay in State, give them a unique feel to the touch. Look for a well-weighted paper, with texture or not, with at least 25% cotton composition. The more cotton the stronger the tales the parson paper and crisper it feels. Many colored and textured papers are already manufactured as “premium” and will thus have a cotton fiber percentage of 50-100%, resulting in a very impressive document. All resume paper should be 8.5” X 11”; there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

8.5” X 11” is the size that filing units are built to contain, the size scanners are by default set to process, and the size common manila envelopes are made to contain, so it is highly inadvisable to tales the parson, print paper any smaller or larger. By taking into consideration all of the above guidelines, any job applicant can write a perfect resume sure to be impressive to even the most critical of human resources managers. Do My Homework For Money - The Parson in The Canterbury Tales: Description…

6 characteristics of the new nonprofit leader. Recent surveys and reports have shared that nonprofits are facing a tough road ahead, tackling increasing turnover and decreasing revenue. But what do these challenges mean for nonprofit leaders? In the article below Nell Edgington#8212;President of Social Velocity, a management consulting firm that helps nonprofits grow their programs, bring more money in the door and use resources more effectively#8212;outlines how fewer resources and more competition are requiring nonprofits to rethink leadership. by Nell Edgington. Photo credit: John Morton, Creative Commons/Flickr.

Last week I spoke to a group of nonprofit leaders about 5 Nonprofits Trends to Watch in 2013 and canterbury, a woman stood up and said “These trends are all well and good, but we need to talk about the fact that the money just isn’t there anymore. We are having to for hindus compete with more organizations for much less available funding. We need solutions to that.” Agreed — fewer resources and canterbury the parson, more competition for those shrinking resources is the reality we are facing. But it’s not going to change anytime soon.

So it is up to nonprofit leaders to embrace and adapt to that new reality. Instead of beating our heads against the wall of change, let’s adapt to meet it. In fact, it is is my best, time for a new kind of nonprofit leader, one who has the confidence, ability, foresight, energy, and strength of will to really lead the canterbury, nonprofit sector forward. This new nonprofit leader: Moves to Impact. She realizes that it is no longer enough to just “do good work.” Nonprofits must create a theory of caged bird poem theme, change and then find a way to measure and articulate the outcomes and impact they hope they are achieving. Finances the Work . Tales. He works toward completely integrating money into the mission his nonprofit is trying to achieve, understanding that big plans are not enough, he also must finance them. And beyond just recognizing his lack of infrastructure, he puts together a plan for raising capacity capital and convinces donors to start investing in a stronger, more effective organization behind the work. Refuses to buddy Play Nice.

She overcomes the nonprofit norm of politeness at all costs and gets real with funders, board members, or staff who are standing in the way of the gram positive vs gram, mission and canterbury tales the parson, impact of the of worship, organization. Canterbury Tales The Parson. Looks Outside . He understands that a nonprofit can no longer exist in a vacuum. He and caged bird, his board and staff must constantly monitor the external marketplace of canterbury the parson, changing client needs, demographic and peekay power, economic trends, funder interests in order make sure their nonprofit continues to create community value. Gets Social . She embraces the idea of a networked nonprofit and is willing and able to open her organization and canterbury tales the parson, let the of worship, world in as fully engaged partners in the work her nonprofit is canterbury tales the parson, doing. Asks Hard Questions. He constantly forces himself, and his high-performing team of board, staff, funders and volunteers to ask hard questions (like these and these) in order to make sure they are pushing themselves harder, making the best use of caged bird poem, resources and delivering more results. This new nonprofit leader is confident, engaged, and savvy. She will, I have no doubt, lead this great nonprofit sector to new heights.

If you need help figuring out how to tales adapt to this new reality, let me know. Nell has over 17 years of experience innovating in the nonprofit sector. In her work at Social Velocity she has helped nonprofits grow their programs, find firmer financial footing, create a pitch for canterbury tales the parson, money to strengthen or grow their organizations, create strategic plans and much more. I think the canterbury the parson, constant focus on fundraising, capital projects, etc. is interesting as there often seems to be little discussion about money in regards to the staff who keep these cultural institutions up and running (and successful, and profitable, and so on). In my organization, if there are no raises this year we will have gone 5 years with no increases. Power. We do receive an optional, small #8220;bonus#8221; at tales, the end of each year, however when discussing turnover one must pay attention to the fact that stagnant salaries/wages will start translating over to the larger career of the caged bird, people making the business go. I#8217;ve been asked to make sure that I#8217;m managing my human capital effectively (which is not a bad thing), however where is the focus on investing in our human capital beyond throwing a few dollars or a free dinner for two for outstanding service at someone in the hopes that they#8217;ll stay motivated to canterbury tales achieve the mission of the organization? If you#8217;re at a senior level management position perhaps you are comfortable in your career trajectory (if it#8217;s flattening out), however those of us in lower and middle management are looking for career growth and it#8217;s stunted, at least financially (and often overall as these are usually smaller organizations with no where to grow), and then you#8217;re looking at tales the parson, the problem of turnover and constantly struggling to teach that mission to new people who may leave soon after they#8217;ve learned it. I agree with Jack.

A professor I had at gram positive vs gram negative, NYU Stern used to call great leaders #8220;Janus-faced#8221; #8212; meaning not only did they need to #8216;look outside#8217; and be aware of trends, etc, but s/he also needed to look INSIDE. As the business SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses / Opportunities, Threats) teaches, Strengths and Weaknesses and INTERNAL, while Opportunities and tales, Threats are EXTERNAL. A good leader will be aware of all, always Janus-faced, looking inwards and outwards. Bud Not Questions. What do you do if the so called leader of your organisation and the so called board just sucks? (Sorry for my use of words but I#8217;ve overcome my politeness.) A lot of (good) advice and models depart from the the parson, assumption that the board of directors are the right people at friend quotes, the right place and the parson, that good leadership and change start from there/them. What if this is not the case? How do you changes this from within the #8216;staff#8217;? In the case of my organisation the #8216;staff#8217; has all 6 characteristics described in the article in mind and friend, try to implement them but#8230; what if the board is not interested? How do you organise bottom-up change? Something else. Some suggestions: Use #8216;social profit#8217; in stead of #8216;nonprofit#8217;. Canterbury Tales The Parson. (that#8217;s the new trend #128521; (In most social profits the is my best friend quotes, #8216;staff#8217; doesn#8217;t just do the work the board tells them to do but plays an important role in organizing and creating a strategy, implicit or explicit, recognized or not.) And maybe use #8216;head of organisation#8217; in stead of #8216;leader#8217;. (The leading way of an organisation can come from many directions.

Otherwise, the organisation of the organisation does not always come from the so called #8216;leader#8217; and his board#8230;) Like what you're reading? Never miss a post. emerson and essays [This essay was put together after Emerson's death from canterbury tales, a number of commencement and peekay power similar addresses he had made. It appears in The Complete Writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson , edited by Edward Emerson] A new degree of gram vs gram intellectual power seems cheap at any price. The use of the world is that man may learn its laws. And the human race have wisely signified their sense of this, by calling wealth, means-- Man being the end.

Language is always wise. Therefore I praise New England because it is the country in the world where is the freest expenditure for education. We have already taken, at the planting of the Colonies (for aught I know for the first time in the world), the tales initial step, which for its importance might have been resisted as the most radical of revolutions, thus deciding at the start the destiny of this country--this, namely, that the poor man, whom the law does not allow to take an ear of corn when starving, nor a pair of shoes for his freezing feet, is allowed to put his hand into the pocket of the rich, and vs gram say, You shall educate me, not as you will, but as I will: not alone in the elements, but, by further provision, in the languages, in sciences, in the useful and in elegant arts. The child shall be taken up by the State, and taught, at the public cost, the rudiments of knowledge, and, at , last, the ripest results of art and science. Humanly speaking, the school, the college, society, make the difference between men. All the fairy tales of Aladdin or the invisible Gyges or the taIisman that opens kings' palaces or the enchanted halls underground or in the sea, are any fictions to indicate the one miracle of intellectual enlargement.

When a man stupid becomes a man inspired, when one and the same man passes out of the torpid into , the perceiving state, leaves the din of trifles, the stupor of the senses, to enter into the quasi-omniscience of high thought--up and canterbury tales down, around, all limits disappear. No horizon shuts down. He sees things in their causes, all facts in their connection. One of the problems of history is the beginning of civilization. The animals that accompany and serve man make no progress as races. Those called domestic are capable of learning of canterbury tales the parson man a few tricks of utility or amusement, but they cannot communicate the skill to their race. Each individual must be taught anew.

The trained dog cannot train another dog. And Man himself in many faces retains almost the unteachableness of the beast. For a thousand years the islands and forests of Essay on Disability in State of California a great part of the world have been led with savages who made no steps of advance in art or skill beyond the necessity of being fed and warmed. Certain nations with a better brain and usually in more temperate climates have made such progress as to compare with these as these compare with the peekay bear and canterbury tales the parson the wolf. Victory over things is the office of best man. Of course, until it is canterbury tales, accomplished, it is the war and insult of things over him. His continual tendency, his great danger, is to overlook the fact that the world is only his teacher, and the nature of sun and moon, plant and animal only means of arousing his interior activity. Enamored of their beauty, comforted by their convenience, he seeks them as ends, and fast loses sight of the fact that they have worse than no values, that they become noxious, when he becomes their slave. This apparatus of wants and faculties, this craving body, whose organs ask all the elements and all the tales functions of Nature for their satisfaction, educate the wondrous creature which they satisfy with light, with heat, with water, with wood, with bread, with wool. The necessities imposed by his most irritable and all-related texture have taught Man hunting, pasturage, agriculture, commerce, weaving, joining, masonry, geometry, astronomy.

Here is , a world pierced and belted with natural laws, and fenced and planted with civil partitions and canterbury the parson properties, which all put new restraints on the young inhabitant. He too must come into this magic circle of relations, and know health and sickness, the fear of injury, the desire of external good, the charm of riches, the charm of on Unemployment power. The household is a school of power. There, within the door, learn the tragicomedy of human life. Here is the sincere thing, the wondrous composition for which day and night go round. In that routine are the places of worship sacred relations, the passions that bind and sever. Here is poverty and all the wisdom its hated necessities can teach, here labor drudges, here affections glow, here the canterbury tales secrets of character are told, the guards of man, the guards of woman, the compensations which, like angels of justice, pay every debt: the opium of custom, whereof all drink and many go mad. Here is Economy, and tales Glee, and Hospitality, and Ceremony, and Frankness, and is my friend quotes Calamity, and Death, and Hope. Every man has a trust of power--every man, every boy a jurisdiction, whether it be over a cow or a rood of canterbury tales the parson a potato-field, or a fleet of ships, or the laws of a state. And what activity the desire of bud not questions and answers power inspires!

What toils it sustains! How it sharpens the tales the parson perceptions and stores the memory with facts. Thus a man may well spend many years of life in trade. It is a constant teaching of the laws of matter and of mind, No dollar of canterbury tales the parson property can be created without some direct communication with nature, and of course some acquisition of knowledge and practical force. It is a constant contest with the active faculties of men, a study of the issues of one and another course of action, an places for hindus accumulation of power, and, if the higher faculties of the individual be from time to time quickened, he will gain wisdom and virtue from the parson, his business.

As every wind draws music out of the Aeolian harp, so doth every object in Nature draw music out of his mind. Is it not true that every landscape I behold, every friend I meet, every act I perform, every pain I suffer, leaves me a different being from that they found me? That poverty, love, authority, anger, sickness, sorrow, success, all work actively upon canterbury tales our being and unlock for us the concealed faculties of the mind? Whatever private or petty ends are frustrated, this end is always answered. Whatever the man does, or whatever befalls him, opens another chamber in his soul--that is, he has got a new feeling, a new thought, a new organ. Do we not see how amazingly for this end man is fitted to the world? What leads him to science?

Why does he track in the midnight heaven a pure spark, a luminous patch wandering from age to age, but because he acquires thereby a majestic sense of of worship power; learning that in his own constitution he can set the shining maze in order, and finding and carrying their law in his mind, can, as it were, see his simple idea realized up yonder in giddy distances and frightful periods of duration. If Newton come and first of men perceive that not alone certain bodies fall to the ground at a certain rate, but that all bodies in the Universe, the tales the parson universe of bodies, fall always, and at one rate; that every atom in nature draws to every other atom--he extends the power of his mind not only over every cubic atom of his native planet, but he reports the condition of millions of worlds which his eye never saw. And what is the charm which every ore, every new plant, every new fact touching winds, clouds, ocean currents, the secrets of chemical composition and decomposition possess for my dog friend quotes, Humboldt. What but that much revolving of similar facts in his mind has shown him that always the mind contains in its transparent chambers the means of classifying the most refractory phenomena, of canterbury tales depriving, them of all casual and chaotic aspect, and subordinating them to a bright reason of its own, and so giving to man a sort of gram negative property--yea, the very highest property in every district and particle of the globe. By the tales permanence of Nature, minds are trained alike, and made intelligible to each other. In our condition are the roots of gram vs gram language and communication, and these instructions we never exhaust.

In some sort the end of life is that the man should take up the universe into himself, or out of that quarry leave nothing unrepresented. Yonder mountain must migrate into his mind. Yonder magnificent astronomy he is at negative, last to import, fetching away moon, and planet, solstice, period, comet and binal star, by comprehending their relation and law. Instead of the timid stripling he was, he is to be the stalwart Archimedes, Pythagoras, Columbus, Newton, of the physic, metaphysic and canterbury tales the parson ethics of the design of the world. For truly the population of the globe has its origin in the aims which their existence is to serve; and so with every portion of them. The truth takes flesh in forms that can express it; and thus in history an idea always overhangs, like the moon, and rules the tide which rises simultaneously in all the souls of a generation.

Whilst thus the world exists for the mind; whilst thus the man is ever invited inward into shining realms of knowledge and power by gram negative the shows of the canterbury the parson world, which interpret to him the infinitude of his own consciousness--it becomes the office of a just education to awaken him to the knowledge of this fact. We learn nothing rightly until we learn the caged bird symbolical character of life. Day creeps after day, each full of facts, dull, strange, despised things, that we cannot enough despise--call heavy, prosaic, and desert. The time we seek to kill: the attention it is elegant to divert from things around us. And presently the aroused intellect finds gold and gems in one of these scorned facts--then finds that the day of canterbury tales facts is a rock of diamonds; that a fact is an Epiphany of God. We have our theory of life, our religion, our philosophy; and the event of each moment, the shower, the steamboat disaster the passing of a beautiful face, the apoplexy of our neighbor, are all tests to try our theory, the approximate result we call truth, and reveal its defects.

If I have renounced the search of truth, if I have come into canterbury tales the parson, the port of some pretending dogmatism, some new church or old church, some Schelling or Cousin, I have died to all use of these new events that are born out of prolific time into multitude of life every hour. I am as a bankrupt to whom brilliant opportunities offer in vain. He has just foreclosed his freedom, tied his hands, locked himself up and given the caged bird poem key to another to keep. When I see the doors by which God enters into the mind; that there is no sot or fop, ruffian or pedant into whom thoughts do not enter by passages which the individual never left open, I can expect any revolution in character. I have hope, said the great Leibnitz, that society may be reformed, when I see how much education may be reformed. It is ominous, a presumption of crime, that this word Education has so cold, so hopeless a sound. A treatise on education, a convention for education, a lecture, a system, affects us with slight paralysis and a certain yawning of the Essay on Unemployment Effect on Disability jaws.

We are not encouraged when the law touches it with its fingers. Education should be as broad as man. Whatever elements are in him that should foster and demonstrate. If he be dexterous, his tuition should make it appear; if he be capable of dividing men by the trenchant sword of his thought, education should unsheathe and sharpen it; if he is one to peekay, cement society by his all-reconciling affinities, oh! hasten their action! If he is jovial, if he is the parson, mercurial, if he is a great-hearted, a cunning artificer, a strong commander, a potent ally, ingenious, useful, elegant, witty, prophet, diviner--society has need of all these.

The imagination must be addressed. Why always coast on the surface and never open the interior of nature, not by poem theme science, which is surface still, but by poetry? Is not the Vast an element of the mind? Yet what teaching, what book of this day appeals to the Vast? Our culture has truckled to the times--to the senses. It is not manworthy. If the vast and the spiritual are omitted, so are the practical and the moral. It does not make us brave or free.

We teach boys to be such men as we are. We do not teach them to aspire to be all they can.. We do not give them a training as if we believed in their noble nature. We scarce educate their bodies. We do not train the eye and the hand.

We exercise their understandings to the apprehension and: comparison of some facts, to a skill in numbers, in words; we aim to make accountants, attorneys, engineers; but not to make able, earnest, great-hearted men. The great object of Education should be commensurate with the object of life. It should be a moral one; to teach self-trust; to inspire the youthful man with an interest in himself; with a curiosity touching his own nature; to acquaint him with the resources of his mind, and to teach him that there is all his strength, and to places of worship for hindus, inflame him with a piety towards the Grand Mind in which he lives. Thus would education conspired with the Divine Providence. A man is a little thing whilst he works by tales the parson and for peekay of one, himself, but, when he gives voice to the rules of love and justice, is godlike, this word is current in all countries; and all men, though his enemies, are made his friends and caged bird poem obey it as their own. In affirming that the moral nature of man is the canterbury the parson predominant element and should therefore be mainly consulted in the arrangements of bud not buddy and answers a school, I am very far from wishing that it should swallow up all the other instincts and tales faculties of man. It should be enthroned in his mind, but if it monopolize the man he is not yet sound, he does not yet know his wealth. He is in danger of becoming merely devout, and wearisome through the monotony of his thought.

It is not less necessary that the intellectual and caged the active faculties should be nourished and matured. Let us apply to this subject the light of the canterbury tales the parson same torch by which we have looked at all the phenomena of the time; the infinitude, namely, of every man. Everything teaches that. One fact constitutes all my satisfaction, inspires all my trust, viz., this perpetual youth, which, as long as there is any good in us, we cannot get rid of. It is very certain that the coming age and the departing age seldom understand each other. The old man thinks the young man has no distinct purpose, for the parson, he could never get any thing intelligible and earnest out of him. Perhaps the young man does not think: it worth his while to bud not, explain himself to so hard an the parson inapprehensive a confessor. Let him be led up with a longsighted forbearance, and let not the sallies of his petulance or folly be checked with disgust or indignation or despair.

I call our system a system of despair, and I find all the correction, all the revolution that is needed and that the best spirits of this age promise, in one word, in Hope. Nature, when she sends a new mind into the world, fills it beforehand with a desire for that which she wishes it to know and buddy questions do, Let us wait and canterbury the parson see what is this new creation, of what new organ the great Spirit had need when it incarnated this new Will. A new Adam in the garden, he is to name all the beasts in the field, all the gods in the sky. And jealous provision seems to my dog is my best friend, have been made in his constitution that you shah not invade and contaminate him with the canterbury the parson worn weeds of your language and opinions. The charm of life is this variety of peekay power genius, these contrasts, and flavors by which Heaven has modulated the identity of truth, and there is a perpetual hankering to violate this individuality, to warp his ways of thinking and behavior to resemble or reflect your thinking and behavior. A low self-love in the parent desires that his child should repeat his character and fortune; an expectation which the child, if justice is done him, will nobly disappoint. By working on the theory that this resemblance exists, we shall do what in us lies to defeat his proper promise and canterbury tales the parson produce the ordinary and mediocre. I suffer whenever I see that common sight of a parent or senior imposing his opinion and way of thinking and being on a young soul to of worship for hindus, which they are totally unfit. Cannot we let people be themselves, and enjoy life in their own way?

You are trying to make that man another you . One's enough. Or we sacrifice the genius of the canterbury tales pupil, the unknown possibilities of his nature, to a neat and safe uniformity, as the Turks whitewash the bud not and answers costly mosaics of ancient art which the Greeks left on their temple walls. Rather let us have men whose manhood is only the continuation of their boyhood, natural characters still; such are able and fertile for heroic action; and not that sad spectacle with which we are too familiar, educated eyes in uneducated bodies. I like boys, the canterbury the parson masters of the playground and of the street--boys, who have the same liberal ticket of admission to all shops, factories, armories, town-meetings, caucuses, mobs, target--shootings, as flies have; quite unsuspected, coming in as naturally as the janitor--known to canterbury tales the parson, have no money in their pockets, and poem themselves not suspecting the value of canterbury this poverty; putting nobody on his guard, but seeing the inside of the buddy and answers show--hearing all the asides. There are no secrets from tales the parson, them, they know everything that befalls in the fire company, the merits of every engine and of every man at the brakes, how to work it, and are swift to places of worship, try their hand at every part; so too the merits of every locomotive on the rails, and will coax the engineer to let them ride with him and pull the handles when it goes to the engine-house.

They are there only for tales, fun, and not knowing that they are at school, in the court-house, or the peekay cattle-show, quite as much and more than they were, an hour ago, in the arithmetic class. They know truth from counterfeit as quick as the chemist does. They detect weakness in your eye and behavior a week before you open your mouth, and have given you the benefit of their opinion quick as a wink. They make no mistakes, have no pedantry, but entire belief on canterbury tales, experience. Their elections at peekay of one, baseball or cricket are founded on merit, and are right. They don't pass for swimmers until they can swim, nor for stroke-oar until they can row: and I desire to be saved from their contempt. If I can pass with them, I can manage well enough with their fathers. Everybody delights in the energy with which boys deal and talk with each other; the mixture of fun and earnest, reproach and coaxing, love and wrath, with which the game is played--the good-natured yet defiant independence of a leading boy's behavior in the schoolyard.

How we envy in later life the happy youths to whom their boisterous games and rough exercise furnish the precise element which frames and sets off their school and college tasks, and teaches them, when least they think it, the use and meaning of these. In their fun and extreme freak they hit on the topmost sense of Horace. The young giant, brown from his hunting tramp, tells his story well, interlarded with lucky allusions to Homer, to Virgil, to college songs, to Walter Scott; and Jove and Achilles, partridge and trout, opera and binomial theorem, Caesar in Gaul, Sherman in Savannah, and hazing in Holworthy, dance through the narrative in merry confusion, yet the logic is good. If he can turn his books to such picturesque account in his fishing and caged bird theme hunting, it is easy to see how his reading and canterbury experience, as he has more of both, will interpentetrate each other. And every one desires that this pure vigor of action and wealth of narrative, cheered with so much humor and street rhetoric, should be carried: into the habit of the young man, purged of its uproar and rudeness, but. with all its vivacity entire.

His hunting and campings-out have given him an indispensable base: I wish to add a taste for good company; through his impatience of bad. That stormy genius of my dog best friend his needs a little direction to canterbury, games, charades, verses of society, song, and on Unemployment Effect Fraud of California a correspondence year by year with his wisest and best friends. Friendship is an order of nobility; from its revelations We come more worthily into nature. Society he must have or he is poor indeed; he gladly enters a school which forbids conceit, affectation, emphasis and canterbury the parson dullness, and questions and answers requires of each only the flower of canterbury the parson his nature and experience; requires good will, beauty, wit, and select information; teaches by practice the law of caged conversation, namely, to hear as well as to speak. Meantime, if circumstances do not permit the the parson high social advantages, solitude has also its lessons. The obscure youth learns there the places of worship for hindus practice instead of the literature of his virtues; and, because of the disturbing effect of canterbury the parson passion and sense, which by a multitude of trifles impede the mind's eye from the quiet search of that fine horizon-line which truth keeps--the way to knowledge and power has ever been an escape from too much engagement with affairs and possessions; a way, not through plenty and superfluity, but by denial and renunciation, into solitude and privation; and, the more is taken away, the more; real and inevitable wealth of being is the parson, made known to gram positive vs gram, us. The solitary knows the essence of the thought, the scholar in society only its fair face. There is no want of example of great men, great benefactors, who have been monks and hermits in habit.

The bias of mind is sometimes irresistible in that direction. The man is, as it were, born deaf and dumb, and dedicated to a narrow and lonely life. Let him study the art of solitude, yield as gracefulIy as he can to the parson, his destiny. Why cannot he get the good of his doom, and if it is from eternity a settled fact that he and society shall be nothing to each other, why need he blush so, and make wry faces to keep up a freshman's seat in the fine world? Heaven often protects valuable souls charged with great secrets, great ideas, by long shutting them up with their own thoughts. And the Essay Effect Fraud in State of California most genial and canterbury tales amiable of men must alternate society with solitude, and learn its severe lessons. There comes the period of the imagination to each, a later youth; the power of beauty, the power of books, of quotes poetry. Culture makes his books realities to him, their characters more brilliant, more effective on his mind, than his actual mates. Do not spare to put novels into the hands of young people as an occasional holiday and experiment but, above all, good poetry in all kinds, epic, tragedy, lyric. If we can touch the imagination, we serve them, they will never forget it.

Let him read Tom Brown at of worship for hindus, Rugby , read Tom Brown at Oxford , better yet, read Hodson's Life --Hodson who took prisoner the King of Delhi. They teach the same truth--a trust, against all appearances, against all privations, in your own worth, and not in tricks, plotting, or patronage. I believe that our own experience instructs us that the secret of Education lies in respecting the pupil. It is not for the parson, you to choose what he shall know, what he shall do. It is chosen and foreordained, and he only holds the key to his own secret.

By your tampering and thwarting and too much governing he may be hindered from his end and kept out of his own. Respect the places of worship child. Wait and see the new product of Nature. Nature loves analogies, but not repetitions. Respect the child. Be not too much his parent. Trespass not on tales, his solitude.

But I hear the outcry which replies to this suggestion--Would you verily throw up the reins of public and private discipline; would you leave the young child to the mad career of his own passions and whimsies, and call this anarchy a respect for the child's nature? I answer--Respect the child, respect him to the end, but also respect yourself. Be the companion of his thought, the friend of his friendship, the lover of his virtue--but no kinsman of his sin. Let him find you so true to yourself that you are the irreconcilable hater of his vice and the imperturbable slighter of his trifling. The two points in a boy's training are, to tales the parson, keep his naturel and train off all but that--to keep his naturel , but stop off his uproar, fooling, and horseplay--keep his nature and canterbury the parson arm it with knowledge in the very direction to which it points. Here are the caged theme two capital facts, Genius and Drill.

This first in the inspiration in the well-born healthy child, the new perception he has of nature. Somewhat he sees in forms or hears in music or apprehends in mathematics, or believes practicable in mechanics or possible in political society, which no one else sees or hears or believes. This is the perpetual romance of new life, the invasion of God into canterbury tales the parson, the old dead world, when he sends into my dog is my, quiet houses a young soul with a thought which is not met, looking for something which is canterbury the parson, not there, but which ought to be there: the best friend thought is dim but it is sure, and he casts about restless for means and masters to verify it; he makes wild attempts to canterbury the parson, explain himself and invoke the aid and consent of the is my best quotes by-standers. Baffled for want of language and methods to convey his meaning, not yet clear to himself, he conceives that though not in this house or town, yet in some other house or town is the wise master who can put him in possession of the rules and instruments to execute his will. Happy this child with a bias, with a thought which entrances him, leads him, now into deserts now into cities, the fool of an idea. Let him follow it in good and in evil report, in good or bad company; it will justify itself; it will lead him at last into the illustrious society of the lovers of truth. In London, in a private company, I became acquainted with a gentleman, Sir Charles Fellowes, who, being at Xanthos, in the Aegean Sea, had seen a Turk point with his staff to some carved work on the corner of the parson a stone almost buried in the soil. Fellowes scraped away the dirt, was struck with the beauty of the peekay power sculptured ornaments, and, looking about him, observed; more blocks and fragments like this.

He returned to the spot, procured laborers and uncovered many blocks. He went back to England, bought a Greek grammar and learned the canterbury tales language; he read history and studied, ancient art to explain his stones; he interested Gibson the sculptor; he invoked the assistance of the my dog is my best friend English Government; he called in the succor of canterbury tales the parson Sir Humphry Davy to caged bird theme, analyze the pigments; of experts in coins, of scholars and connoisseurs; and at last: in his third visit brought home to England such statues and marble reliefs and such careful plans that he was able to reconstruct, in the British Museum where it now stands, the perfect model of the Ionic trophy-monument, fifty years older than the Parthenon of Athens, and which had been destroyed by my dog earthquakes, then by iconoclast Christians, then by savage Turks. But mark that in the task be had achieved an excellent education, and best friend quotes become associated with distinguished scholars whom he had interested in his pursuit; in short, had formed a college for himself; the enthusiast had found the master, the masters, whom he sought. Always genius seeks genius, desires nothing so much as to the parson, be a pupil and to find those who can lend it aid to perfect itself. Nor are the two elements, enthusiasm and drill, incompatible. Accuracy is essential to beauty. The very definition of the intellect is Aristotle's: that by which we know terms or boundaries. Give a boy accurate perceptions. Teach him the difference between the buddy questions similar and the same.

Make him call things by canterbury their right names. Pardon in him no blunder. Then he will give you solid satisfaction as long as he lives, It is better to teach the child arithmetic and Latin grammar than rhetoric or moral philosophy, because they require exactitude of performance; it is made certain that the my dog is my friend quotes lesson is mastered, and that power of performance is worth more than the knowledge. He can learn anything which is important to him now that the power to canterbury tales the parson, learn is secured: as mechanics say, when one has learned the use of vs gram negative tools, it is tales, easy to work at a new craft. Letter by letter, syllable by syllable, the child learns to read, and in good time can convey to all the domestic circle the sense of Shakespeare. By many steps each just as short, the stammering boy and the hesitating collegian, in the school debates, in college clubs, in mock court, comes at canterbury tales, last to full, secure, triumphant unfolding of his thought in the popular assembly, with a fullness of power that makes all the steps forgotten. But this function of opening and feeding the human mind is not to be fulfilled by any mechanical or military method; is not to be trusted to any skill less large than Nature itself. You must not neglect the form, but you must secure the bud not buddy questions essentials. It is canterbury tales, curious how perverse and intermeddling we are, and what vast pains and cost we incur to do wrong. Whilst we all know in our own experience and apply natural methods in our own business -- in education our common sense fails us, and we are continually trying costly machinery against nature, in patent schools and canterbury the parson academies and in great colleges and universities.

The natural method forever confutes our experiments, and we must still come back to it. The whole theory of the school is on the nurse's or mother's knee. The child is of worship for hindus, as hot to learn as the mother is to impart. There is mutual delight. The joy of our childhood in hearing beautiful stories from some skillful aunt who loves to canterbury tales the parson, tell them, must be repeated in youth. The boy wishes to learn to skate; to coast, to catch a fish in the brook, to places for hindus, hit a mark with a snowball or a stone; and a boy a little older is just as well pleased to teach him these sciences.

Not less delightful is the mutual pleasure of teaching and learning the secret of algebra, or of chemistry, or of good reading and good recitation of poetry or of tales prose, or of chosen facts in history or in biography. Nature provided for the communication of thought by planting with it in the receiving mind a fury to impart it. 'Tis so in every art, in every science. One burns to tell the new fact, the other burns to hear it. See how far a young doctor will ride or walk to witness a new surgical operation. I have seen a carriage-maker's shop emptied of canterbury tales all its workmen into the street, to scrutinize a new pattern from poem theme, New York. So in literature, the young man who has taste for poetry, for fine images, for noble thoughts, is insatiable for this nourishment, and canterbury tales forgets all the world for the more learned friend--who finds equal joy in dealing out his treasures. Happy the natural college thus self-instituted around every natural teacher; the young men of Athens around Socrates; of Alexander around Plotinus; of Paris around Abelard; of tales Germany around Fichte, or Niebuhr, or Goethe: in short the natural sphere of every leading mind. But the vs gram moment this is organized, difficulties begin. The college was to be the nurse and home of genius; but, though every young man is born with some determination in his nature, and is a potential genius; is at last to be one; it is, in the most, obstructed and delayed, and, whatever they may hereafter be, their senses are now opened in advance of their minds.

They are more sensual than intellectual. Appetite and indolence they have, but no enthusiasm. These come in numbers to the college: few geniuses: and tales the parson the teaching comes to be arranged for these many, and not for those few. Hence the instruction seems to require skillful tutors, of accurate and systematic mind, rather than ardent and inventive masters. Besides, the youth of genius are eccentric, won't drill, are irritable, uncertain, explosive, solitary, not men of the world, not good for every-day association. You have to work for large classes instead of individuals; you must lower your flag and reef your sails to wait for Effect in State of California, the dull sailors; you grow departmental, routinary, military almost with your discipline and college police.

But what doth such a school to canterbury tales, form a great and heroic character? What abiding Hope can it inspire? What Reformer will it nurse? What poet will it breed to sing to the human race? What discoverer of Nature's laws will it prompt to enrich us by disclosing in the mind the statute which all matter must obey? What fiery soul will it send out to warm a nation with his charity? What tranquil mind will it have fortified to walk with meekness in private and tales obscure duties, to wait and to suffer?

Is it not manifest that our academic institutions should have a wider scope; that they should not be timid and keep the ruts of the last generation, but that wise men thinking for themselves and heartily seeking the places of worship for hindus good of mankind, and counting the cost of innovation, should dare to arouse the young to a just and heroic life; that the the parson moral nature should be addressed in the school-room, and children should be treated as the high-born candidates of truth and virtue? So to regard the young child, the young man, requires, no doubt, rare patience: a patience that nothing but faith in the medial forces of the power of one soul can give. You see his sensualism; you see his want of those tastes and perceptions which make the power and tales safety of your character. Very likely, But he has something else. If he has his own vice, he has its correlative virtue. Every mind should be allowed to of worship, make its own statement in action, and its balance will appear. In these judgments one needs that foresight which was attributed to an eminent reformer, of whom it was said his patience could see in the bud of the aloe the blossom at the end of a hundred years. Alas for the cripple Practice when it seeks to come up with the bird Theory, which flies before it. Try your design on the best school. The scholars are of all ages and temperaments and capacities. It is difficult to canterbury the parson, class them, some are too young, some are slow, some perverse.

Each requires so much consideration, that the morning hope of the teacher, of a day of love and progress, is often closed at evening by despair. Each single case, the canterbury the parson more it is considered, shows more to be done; and the strict conditions of the hours, on: one side, and the number of tasks, on the other. Whatever becomes of our method, the Essay Effect Fraud in State of California conditions stand fast--six hours, and thirty, fifty, or a hundred and fifty pupils. Something must be done, and done speedily, and in this distress the wisest are tempted to adopt violent means, to proclaim martial law, corporal punishment, mechanical arrangement, bribes, spies, wrath, main strength and ignorance, in lieu of that wise genial providential influence they had hoped, and yet hope at some future day to adopt. Of course the devotion to the parson, details reacts injuriously on the teacher. He cannot indulge his genius, he cannot delight in personal relations with young friends, when his eye is always on the clock, and twenty classes are to be dealt with before the day is done. Besides, how can he please himself with genius, and foster modest virtue? A sure proportion of rogue and dunce finds its way into every school and requires a cruel share of time, and the gentle teacher, who wished to best, be a Providence to youth, is the parson, grown a martinet, sore with suspicions; knows as much vice as the judge of a police court, and his love of learning is lost in the routine of grammars and books of elements. A rule is so easy that it does not need a man to apply it; an automaton, a machine, can be made to keep a school so. It facilitates labor and for hindus thought so much that there is always the temptation in large schools to omit the canterbury endless task of meeting the peekay wants of each single mind, and to govern by steam.

But it is at frightful cost. Our modes of Education aim to expedite, to save labor; to do for masses what cannot be done for masses, what must be done reverently, one by one: say rather, the whole world is needed for the tuition of each pupil. The advantages of this system of emulation and display are so prompt and obvious, it is canterbury tales the parson, such a time-saver, it is so energetic on slow and on bad natures, and is of so easy application, needing no sage or poet, but any tutor or schoolmaster in his first term can apply it--that it is not strange that this calomel of culture should be a popular medicine. On the other hand, total abstinence from this drug, and the adoption of simple discipline and the following of nature involves at once immense claims on the time, the thoughts, on the Life of the teacher. It requires time, use, insight, event, all the great lessons and assistances of God; and only to think of using it implies character and profoundness; to enter on this course of caged theme discipline is to be good and great. It is precisely analogous to the difference between the use of corporal punishment and the methods of love. It is canterbury, so easy to bestow on caged theme, a bad boy a blow, overpower him, and get obedience without words, that in this world of hurry and distraction, who can wait for the returns of reason and the conquest of self; in the uncertainty too whether that will ever come? And yet the familiar observation of the canterbury tales universal compensations might suggest the bird theme fear that so summary a stop of canterbury tales the parson a bad humor was more jeopardous than its continuance. Now the correction of this quack practice is to import into Education the wisdom of life. Leave this military hurry and adopt the pace of Nature.

Her secret is patience. Do you know how the naturalist learns all the secrets of the forest, of plants, of birds, of beasts, of reptiles, of fishes, of the rivers and the sea? When he goes into the woods the birds fly before him and he finds none; when he goes to the river bank, the fish and the reptile swim away and leave him alone. His secret is patience; he sits down, and sits still; he is a statue; he is a log. These creatures have no value for their time, and poem theme he must put as low a rate on his. By dint of obstinate sitting still, reptile, fish, bird and beast, which all wish to return to their haunts, begin to return. He sits still; if they approach, he remains passive as the canterbury the parson stone he sits upon.

They lose their fear. They have curiosity too about him. By and by the curiosity masters the fear, and they come swimming, creeping and dying towards him; and canterbury tales the parson as he is places, still immovable, they not only resume their haunts and their ordinary labors and manners, show themselves to him in their work-day trim, but also volunteer some degree of tales the parson advances towards fellowship and good understanding with a biped who behaves so civilly and well. Can you not baffle the impatience and passion of the child by your tranquility? Can you not wait for him, as Nature and Providence do? Can you not keep for his mind and ways, for his secret, the same curiosity you give to tales the parson, the squirrel, snake, rabbit, and the sheldrake and the deer?

He has a secret; wonderful methods in him; he is--every child--a new style of man; give him time and opportunity. Talk of Columbus and Newtonl. I tell you the child just born in yonder hovel is the beginning of a revolution as great as theirs. But you must have the believing and prophetic eye. Have the self-command you wish to inspire. Your teaching and discipIine must have the reserve and taciturnity of Nature. Teach them to hold their tongues by Fraud in State of California holding your own. Say little; do not snarl; do not chide; but govern by the eye. See what they need, and that the right thing is done. I confess myself utterly at a loss in suggesting particular reforms in our ways of teaching.

No discretion that can be lodged with a school-committee, with the overseers or visitors of an buddy academy, of a college, can at all avail to canterbury tales, reach these difficulties and perplexities, but they solve themselves when we leave institutions and address individuals. The will, the male power, organizes, imposes its own thought and wish on others, and makes that military eye which controls boys as it controls men; admirable in its results, a fortune to canterbury tales, him who has it, and only dangerous when it leads the workman to overvalue and overuse it and precludes him from finer means. Sympathy, the female force--which they must use who have not the first--deficient in instant control and the breaking down of resistance, is more subtle and on Unemployment Effect on Disability in State of California lasting and creative. I advise teachers to cherish mother-wit. I assume that you will keep the grammar, reading, writing and arithmetic in order; 'tis easy and canterbury the parson of course you will. But smuggle in a Iittle contraband wit, fancy, imagination, thought. If you have a taste which you have suppressed because it is not shared by those about you, tell them that. Set this law up, whatever becomes of the rules of the schooI: they must not whisper, much less talk; but if one of the young people says a wise thing, greet it, and let all the children clap their hands. They shall have no book but school-books in the room; but if one has brought in a Plutarch or Shakespeare or Don Quixote or Goldsmith or any other good book, and understands what be reads, put him at once at gram positive vs gram, the head of the class. Nobody shall be disorderly, or leave his desk without permission, but if a boy runs from his bench, or a girl, because the fire falls, or to check some injury that a little dastard is indicting behind his desk on some helpless sufferer, take away the medal from the canterbury tales head of the class and give it on the instant to the brave rescuer.

If a child happens to show that he knows any fact about astronomy, or plants, or birds, or rocks, or history, that interests him and you, hush all the classes and encourage him to ten it so that all may hear. Then you have made your school-room like the world. Of course you will insist on modesty in the children, and respect to their teachers, but if the boy stops you in your speech, cries out my dog is my quotes, that you are wrong and sets you right, hug him! To whatsoever upright mind, to whatsoever beating heart I speak, to you it is committed to educate men. By simple living, by an illimitable soul, you inspire, you correct, you instruct, you raise, you embellish all. By your own act you teach the behold how to the parson, do the practicable. According to the depth from which you draw your life, such is the depth not only of your strenuous effort, but of your manners and presence.

The beautiful nature of the world has here blended your happiness with your power. Work straight on in absolute duty, and you lend an arm and an encouragement to best, all the canterbury youth of the universe. Consent yourself to be an organ of your highest thought, and lo! suddenly you put all men in your debt, and are the fountain of an Effect Fraud in State of California energy that goes pulsing on with waves of benefit to the borders of society, to the circumference of things. Whether you are trying to work this out poem, with family support, or on your own, unless you are fabulously wealthy, you have already realized that sponsorship is a must for nearly every racer on the track. In your pre-racing days you had to tales the parson, pay for parts to make your ride go as fast as your buddy's, or to make it easier on your bod while having fun. As a racer, whether you are a first year amateur or a factory pro, you will have to obtain the performance modifications and replace product when you mess it up, on or off the track. In fact I know of quite a few times that perfectly good brand new parts have been destroyed in the process of bud not buddy and answers installing them (an expensive education and a lesson in why we should read the directions that come with our new toys).

The point being that your little obsession/habit of racing/riding is going to tales the parson, be a costly adventure, but also the time of on Unemployment Effect on Disability in State your life. Anyone that has been to a race track has noticed the stickers on the bikes and haulers. These are sometimes put there because they came free in the shipment of nerfs, handlebars or in tales the parson, a sticker pack the rider got at the local Honda shop. If you are a sponsored rider, then the of worship for hindus branding/stickers on your quad and hauler establish you as a part of the company that you represent. Your actions while wearing the stickers of your sponsor reflect on the sponsor as well as yourself.

Sponsors consider that when choosing riders. Next question, How do I get a bunch of those stickers without paying for them or the parts they come with? Answer: You do your darndest to earn sponsorship. Simple. Right? Not really. When I first got into this arena I was in the same shoes you are in right now (unless you have a marketing degree- in which case disregard the canterbury rest of this article). My background had nothing to quotes, do with how to write a resume for a racer. Sure I could find examples from books at the library or bookstore on resumes, but none for a professional or semi-professional athlete, much less a racer.

So I had to determine what to do to mix the style of resume that I would submit if was looking for a position with a secretarial pool or a teaching position and that of a professional athlete forming a `Racer's Resume'. If you are still reading this right now, you are probably one of the sponsor hungry population who are running out of time to canterbury, get noticed and be considered for this season's budget from most companies. How it works: Nearly every company has a `Sponsorship Budget' in , their program. Each company has a person or team of persons responsible for distributing the monies/products or a combination of both to tales, deserving athletes. This person or team of canterbury the parson persons is called `Rider Support'. Nearly every company that offers sponsorship has levels of sponsorship. Common levels are A, B C level support, Pro and Factory. Support can range from my dog is my best friend a discount on certain products to free products, contingency (this would be money paid for your wins at certain events) all the way to the Holy Grail of the racer: Factory Support.

Now let's get down to how to keep your resume on the top of the pile and out of the trash can. Aside from the basics like your name, street address, city, state, zip code, home and cell phone numbers, you should also include your email. A common mistake, believe it or not, is to of worship for hindus, leave out contact information. Jack Bednar, from Lonestar Racing, has had to dig through the trash pile before to find the right envelope that a resume came in to find out gram positive, how to get in touch with the rider. Also necessary in your resume is a short bio of you and your riding history. Don't go into great detail of every second, third or less finishes you have had, and don't include reasons why you didn't podium at specific races. Until you are sponsored, no one really cares why you didn't finish a race except your parents. Photos are a must. You need to include a head-shot of yourself, one of your bike and one action shot of you at the very least. References must be listed on your resume.

Make sure to include contact information on your references as well. Submit your resume to tales the parson, the right people, during the right time frame. What this means is make sure that you address your resume to the correct department within your target sponsor. Check on the target sponsor's website or call their operator to make sure you have the right address, right name and right time frame to submit your resume. OK, these are the rules. Sounds pretty easy so far. If this was all there is to it, you would not have read this far. This section is more the strategy than cheat codes. There aren't really `Cheat Codes' to a resume, but there are bonus points you can score. Let's review what we have done so far.

We have a basic 4 page resume. You have included all the `regular' stuff and are following all the rules. Now, let's get creative and find the way to keep your resume on the `keep' pile of your target sponsor's desk. First of all do not even consider handwriting your resume. Make sure you use a good word-processor and spell check it. Kevin Mummuah, from and answers Lost Creek Cycle, says, Don't expect someone to do more for you, than the effort you put into your resume. I can tell how much work they put into it when I open them. The ones that haven't spent the time are obvious. Your focus should be to , maximize what you can offer your potential sponsor in the form of endorsing their product and how to communicate that you can do this to the sponsor. If you are sending resumes out to companies that you really like, then it shouldn't be too hard to express your enthusiasm for the company and their product or to canterbury the parson, come up with ideas on how you would carry the message to potential customers on , how awesome their products are.

Is your brain full yet? Maybe this is where you should reconsider that job at canterbury tales the parson, the sawmill instead of racing. I know I have suggested something like this a couple of times to my racer. Beginning with your contact information review what you have there. Format your information with your name in bold print. This is important. If you have included your email, and I am hoping you ARE including an email, you need to keep it professional. You are asking companies to invest a serious amount of confidence in you as well as money in you to questions, support their products and represent their company. If you have an email of toker420@hotmail.com or radicalrider69@yahoo.com (I don't know if these are real emails or not), it definitely gives a certain impression. Most companies have so much interest in their sponsorship programs that they can throw away any potential riders that even hint of tales unprofessionalism. Go ahead and keep your identity nickname for chat and private messages, but obtain a professional email with your name in it like dana@danacreechracing.com or john_smith@hotmail.com either of these would be acceptable and have no unprofessional image.

A note on professionalism: if you include your cell phone number or private home number make sure that your recording is also mainstream. No radical music interludes, raps, or weird recordings. Keep it short and sweet. People in rider support don't have all day to listen to your favorite tunes or you goofing off on your answering machines. Make the tales choice to , go with something grown-up, since you are asking for a grown-up gift. Most of the Essay on Unemployment on Disability Fraud in State Rider Support people take about tales the parson 30 seconds on each resume before deciding what pile to file it in. You need to tales the parson, get their attention to make them even slightly interested in you in the first 10 seconds so they will put you in , the `keep' pile rather than the `round' file next to the desk (trash can). Start your resume with an eye catcher.

What catches your eye? An action photo would be a good idea. OK, here comes the kicker: you actually need a decent action photo to put there. If you don't have some that have been professionally done, get some. Next make sure that the reader can tell it's you. Below are two examples. They are both great `action' photos but the second one is defiantly more eye-catching. Also use good sizes but not to overwhelming and use good quality prints. After you have your resume completed don't mess it all up by printing on your home computer with a low color cartridge. You can have them printed in color on a laser printer for under a buck a page at the local Kinkos. Make sure that you are the focus and that action is clear.

As Kevin Mummuah said, Don't send me substandard photos with ant people in buddy questions, them. Next you need to describe what your abilities and qualifications are. Get rid of all the descriptions of how cool you are and what people think about you. Do include action words describing what you can do. Be willing to back it up. And keep it short. Make sure to include a short history of your wins.

Don't include every race you did or why you didn't podium or finish a particular race. If you have a photo of for hindus your pit area at a race this would be a good place to include it. I am thinking of a photo of your pit area, neat, no garbage, clean well maintained quad, your tools organized and tales the parson, maybe you and your mechanic (or Dad, or your dog) standing next to your quad in full clean gear. Remember you are asking a company to be identified with your professionalism. Do you really think they will be interested in being associated with someone who has no respect for their bike or surroundings? Include where you plan to race for the upcoming season. Just list the series that you plan to do in full. If you are going to buddy, do something like the full GNC National schedule then include it, otherwise say you will be attending selected National events. Be realistic on where you are going to race and canterbury the parson, choose one series to focus on. Spell check.

Read it aloud to someone (that usually catches something that is worded weird). Check your formatting. Make sure you don't have lines that look. this in your resume. Do your homework. Find out exactly who to send your resume to by calling the company or looking up on their website for information on where and canterbury the parson, who to bud not buddy, send your resume to AND make sure that you are submitting your resume in canterbury tales, the right time frame. For instance Shift's Rider Support head, Rob Salcedo, says that they ONLY accept resumes during October 1-31 period. Any resumes that show up even one day early or one day late go straight into the garbage can. Shift gets over 300 resumes from amateur riders in the ATV discipline alone. Clancy Schmitt, from Hiper-Technology, says they get over 500 per year.

The competition is stiff for those sponsorships. So make sure yours comes to the attention of the tales right person during the buddy questions right time period. Spell out how you plan on earning your sponsorship. Simply `promoting my sponsors to the best of my ability and , listing my sponsors on my sign-ups' is not enough. This is EXPECTED not a perk from the parson you. Running the sponsor's stickers and saying `Thank-You' when interviewed are also expected. Whew, now that we have that out Effect on Disability of California, of the way, think on what YOU can do that only you can do. Be original. Be clear on canterbury tales, what your plans are. Spell out peekay, exactly what you would like your sponsor to do for you.

Do not expect free stuff. More realistically you can expect to receive some kind of a discount on canterbury the parson, product if you are selected for sponsorship. Many companies offer their main products at a special rate for sponsored riders. If for instance you are approaching LoneStar Racing, you can let them know what products you are planning on purchasing and when you would need to make a decision on purchasing. Fasst Company said they want to gram positive negative, see at least six things that you can do for them. Chris and Cole say, Whatever you want from this company, you need to be prepared to do double in return.

References are important. Just like a `regular' resume, be prepared to supply the names, addresses, and phone numbers of people that have knowledge of your riding and personality. Your school counselor could write a quick letter of support (on school letterhead) as well as be a reference, a family member, the owner of the bird theme local bike shop and other sponsors are great references. Other riders are not good references. If you can get someone who is nationally recognized to be a reference this is best. The ATV industry is quite small and many people know each other well enough to just give a quick call. If you are under 18 years old, it is absolutely imperative that you include the fact that you have family support. Even young adults will benefit from canterbury the parson showing a strong family support system. Be prepared to show who you are, not just what you do. This is hard to buddy, accomplish in tales the parson, a 4 page resume but can be done.

Presentation. Make sure that you have a cover page, your resume, history/bio page, and a photo page. This is all standard stuff that most of the Rider Support personnel that I spoke with wanted to see. They also have some pet peeves of what is not cool to them. Rob Salcedo absolutely hates those slippery covers that you get for school reports. What happens is you get a stack of the parson them together and my dog best friend, they all start sliding out, ending up on the floor, in the coffee etc. So binders are a big no-no. A simple staple or cover that is not slippery is good.

Have I mentioned spell checking yet? Take pride in yourself and your request. Let your potential sponsor see who you are. Biggest mistakes include: non typed or non word processed resume; slippery folders; the quote, `will promote your company to the best of my ability'; large files emailed to company; too short of a resume; too long of a resume; and misspelled words. Every company that I spoke with accepted resumes in mail form. A few accepted emails, and fewer still accepted FAXed resumes. Nearly every company accepted resumes in October and November. A few accepted them in September and a few accepted them in December.

After January 1 no one that I spoke with would look at a resume. Each company that I spoke with had different levels of support. Scot Denton, from Denton Racing, said they have four levels of support. Kevin Mummuah from Lost Creek Racing works with a lot of riders at different levels of support. Lost Creek has their pros but also a large number of amateurs and canterbury tales the parson, pros who are not even on the roster for Lost Creek, who sometimes end up getting on track support from Kevin.

Hiper Technology has three levels of support. Basically most of the companies that I spoke with have different levels of increasing support the tales the parson longer you have been with the company or as your racing wins or popularity as an ATV personality increases. If you refer a customer to your sponsor, ask the customer to tell your sponsor where they found out power of one, about the canterbury tales the parson product. This looks very good for you and your sponsor will remember this when it comes time to places for hindus, re-evaluate their budget the next year. Jack Bednar summed it up pretty well, Obviously we can't see them all ride, so we have to go on how they present themselves to us through a resume. There are a lot of canterbury people using the buddy and answers Sponsorhouse system for generating a resume. This is a great resource, and OK to use, for a starting point. The format of the caged theme Sponsorhouse system takes care of all the basics but the tales the parson individuality is lacking and many times it seems that the potential sponsor or overwhelmed Rider Support personnel are directed to tales, a web-page to go over. Keeping in mind that the Rider Support people see so many resumes each year, do you really think they are going to be interested in sitting in front of a computer surfing your webpage? Sponsorhouse is a great addition to a traditional resume that is sent out as a hard-copy to places for hindus, your target companies and can really help as the year goes on canterbury, by keeping your hard-won sponsors up to date on what is happening with you.

I would not rely on Sponsorhouse to do it all for you though. If you end up getting sponsorship, and I am sure you will if you follow the tips in this article, make sure that you keep contact with your sponsors. Even if it is a small sponsorship the bird poem first year, you need to start somewhere. Cultivate your relationships and in a few years you should have a much better sponsorship, assuming you live up to what you say you will do for your sponsor. Johnny Jump, from KN Engineering, says he likes to see photos of the places of worship for hindus bike with his company's stickers on it. It would be a fatal mistake to apply for a second year including a photo without your sponsor's sticker visible.

Keep in mind all the riders you have seen in canterbury tales the parson, person, on positive negative, the track, movies, magazines and on the internet. They are all potentially competing with you for the sponsor budget. You have to sell yourself. I know this is kind of weird but basically the `you-ness' of you is all that really separates you from any other rider who applies for sponsorship. I know it feels odd but you need to bite the positive vs gram negative bullet and go for it. As an added bonus you can view Dana Creech's 2003 Resume online through his website.

Have fun, ride safe and don't forget to the parson, call your Mom.
